Who are you that you fear mortal men...that you
forget the LORD your Maker, who stretched out the heavens
(Isaiah 51:12,13).
As I wrote this song, I was thinking about myself (someone
who wants to be courageous but struggles with fear like
anyone else), the church in my home town (where it feels
like the "fear of man" has held us back, but
now we are moving forward in unity and reaching out
in love) and God's people around the world who are being
drawn to worship, pray and reach out in love, especially
in these days of trouble. Often when we sing this song,
people cheer as we declare these words of truth: "You
have overcome the world!" We are remembering the
words of Jesus in John 16:33 "In this world you
will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the
world!" It's not that turning to God means our
problems and struggles go away, but in the middle of
them we can take heart because of who He is and what
He has done!!
