This is another song from this project that is a result of a friendship and partnership. (I think I am seeing a theme emerge here; we so need each other!)
On a return visit to England, I heard my good friend Steve Mitchinson playing a melody on his piano. I said, “That melody sounds like Psalm 42 to me.” That psalm has always been one of my favorites about the psalmist’s longing to meet with God. I had tried in the past to write a song inspired by this psalm but the melodies never seemed quite right. Steve and I opened the scriptures and kept singing the melody looking for the right lyrics that spoke the heart of this psalm in a fresh way.
I also identify with the deer picture in Psalm 42 since deer frequently visit our property and sometimes drink from the stream that flows through it (and partake of a few too many of our roses and other choice plants!)
Even our thirst and hunger for God comes from Him. He really is everything that we need. I waited a couple of years to teach it publicly, but the song was life to me over and over in the secret place. This past year I sensed our church was in a time of fresh hunger for God, so I taught it and it’s become one of our new favourite songs. Many times I have seen people singing it with tears streaming down their face as it seems to sum up our desire for God and his willingness to satisfy us with his presence!
"Are you thirsty?" said the Lion.
"I am dying of thirst," said Jill.
"Then drink," said the Lion...
"There is no other stream."
