This song came out of a powerful vision I received one day when I was wrestling with God about surrendering my life again to God. I had made some plans for my life, and other people had as well. Yet I felt compelled to lay those things down again, even though some of them were good. There was an intense wrestling in my spirit and then I saw in my mind Jesus enter the room and hold out his nail-pierced hands to me. I was overwhelmed by the love in his eyes and the reality of those scars!! I realized in that moment a couple of things: Jesus is very much alive! Secondly, I am not my own; I have been purchased with his blood. I am not the one who gets the final say about what I do with my life! I think one of the most important prayers we can pray is “Lord, show me who owns me!” As he answers that prayer we see Him and get to know Him better, plus we know more clearly that our life is not our own, we have been bought with a price.
That’s why sometimes our life is not easy – we can’t just do what we want. We always need to take the time to ask our rightful owner what he longs to do in and through us. But, even as we surrender, we approach Him with confidence. Jesus has made the way for me to be adopted in the family of God, so I can enter my Father’s House with great confidence, knowing that I am accepted fully by Him. My identity comes from knowing whose I am. He will guide me into the unique plan He has for me which will be life to me and life through me to others. |
