Story of the "TODAY" recording:

Today, my 2 nd worship recording in partnership with Integrity Media, was recorded live in my hometown of Abbotsford B.C. on January 30, 2004. In some ways, the basic approach is similar to “You shine”. It’s a collection of a number of my new worship songs, and fresh versions of some of my older known worship songs. Many of the same musicians contributed. Philip Janz co-produced the project with me, and Vlado Meller at Sony Studios in New York mastered it. However, just as no two songs are alike, each recording is unique. This time, we set out to record, not just a collection of songs, but theme the whole project around a concept from the book of Nehemiah.

Nehemiah 4
1 When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, 2 and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria , he said, "What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble-burned as they are?"

4 Hear us, O our God, for we are despised. . . .

6 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.

TODAY is about our calling when we are half way there — when the wall of our ministry and life is half built. Almost every song speaks in some way to this crossroads, the place where we could turn back from exhaustion or discouragement from the taunts of our enemies, or continue in the grace and strength of God. It’s at this junction that God calls us to be worshipping warriors, not fighting battles as the world does, but in purity as sons and daughters of the Most High. Our Faithful Father is inviting us to dream again, even though some of our dreams have died. In light of that, we make the Joshua choice today and say “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” We don’t make this choice just for our lives, but for the sake of those generations to come, and to link up with the generations who have gone before us!

I was amazingly privileged to record this project in my home town! It was truly an effort of the whole community. So many people pitched in with their hearts and skills and countless hours were volunteered. From the women who sewed the costumes to give the men the look of ancient generations, to the men who built the fortress and rock walls before and during the concert, the local businesses who donated supplies (Blackwood Building Centre & ARXX building products), all the special guests who added their artistry, the artistic directors and lighting designer who envisioned the visual elements, the camera crews, recording engineers and photographers who documented what we did in an almost invisible fashion, and finally to all the people who turned up ready to worship and encouraged all of us.

My hope and prayer is that these songs would serve you — giving you fresh expressions of worship as you continue on the journey of knowing and loving God. I hope and pray that not one of us would give up when we are half-way there and that we would take every opportunity we have to encourage each other along the way! If this project encourages you or one of these songs speaks to you, please write me and tell me part of your story; that would be a huge encouragement to me!

In the Father’s love,
Brian Doerksen
