Story of "Light the
Fire Again" recording:
This was the first project that the Langley Vineyard
team, under my leadership, did in Anaheim California
under the Vineyard Music USA label. On the night of
Sunday October 24th 1993, we began with "Will you
Worship" and "Light the Fire Again" came
second. But for the CD, I am glad that Chris Wimber
switched the song order around. There is something on
those "open snare" hits that Gio played on
the drums that really launched the experience that night.
The executive producers were really unsure about keeping
"Creation Calls" on the CD because it wasn't
a "congregational" worship song. Being in
creation has always moved me to worship, so I was very
happy when they decided to keep it (though I do wish
we would have had a bit more time and money to fix a
few of the glaring mistakes on the song!!). We were
in Anaheim for the weekend.
I wrote the song "Light the Fire Again" first
of all for the denomination I was raised in, the Mennonite
Brethren and for a specific event in Kitchener Ontario
in the spring of 93. The history of the Mennonite Brethren
is very interesting; they experienced a powerful renewal
in the late 1800's in Russia (all my grandparents were
born there), but it eventually ended due to drifting
into heresy and being "shut down." I did the
song that weekend in Kitchener, and then thought, "I
may never do that song again"...guess I was wrong
about that!!
